Laurel horse racing Park covers 360 acres and is located between Baltimore and Washington D.C. It first opened on October 2, 1911 underthe direction of the Laurel Four County Fair. In 1914, New York grocery entrepreneur, James Butler bought the track and outting Col. Matt Winn in charge. Winn is the man who put the Kentucky derby on the racing map.
The park open for Summer between July and August, and again for Fall in October and runs through to the end of December.
Laurel Park has two tracks:
Main Track: One and one-eighth Mile, oval.
Turf Course: One Mile.
